The Journey - Last Leg
We left the UK on the Wednesday and here we are on the Saturday, the day when we arrive at our new home! Jaén had been deliberately chosen for the last night of our road trip, as we knew it as only a couple of hours from our village. Setting off after breakfast meant that we cold be at the house for midday, unload the van, drive to Malaga, drop off the van, collect the hire car and be back home in time for tea! Exhausting.
Actually, it could not have worked better. We actually got to Casa Magdalena, our new home, for 11:30. Unloading the van took very little time and we were on the road again to Malaga.
The second fortuitous part of this final leg was that the Blue Cat parking company, where we were to drop off the van, was only a few doors away from the offices of MalagaCar, through whom we were to hire the car. It all seemed slightly too easy, but that’s the way it was.
Not only that, on the return drive from Malaga to our village, Saleres, we managed to find a huge Carrefour, stock up on essentials and then get home before 5pm. At this stage, it is worth pointing out that Andrew and I both love Carrefour and are like excited children as soon as we enter the door. I think our weekly shop may well merit a post of its own in the not too distant future - something to look forward to!
Anyway, here we are! In our new home, surrounded by boxes. We got here in one piece and now the year stretches ahead of us. It is all slightly surreal, as it takes some getting used to the fact that we now live here; we are not just on holiday. Now, we start to work our way slowly through our long list of all those things we have promised ourselves that we’d achieve - learn the language, paint, draw, cook, walk, write. It is a long list, and it starts right now!
