Letting agents!
In our last post, I mentioned, in passing, that we had not yet secured a tenant for our London home. In the dim and distant past, I used to be involved in property, so I know how estate agents operate and I know how much they are criticised. Sadly, much of the criticism, from my recent experience, is justified!
We have employed the services of two local letting agents, both of whom came in to give their spiel and tell us how lovely our home was and they'd have no trouble finding a suitable tenant. Within a week, both of them declared that the market was sluggish, post Brexit, and that we should reduce the price! Within a week?! What has changed in the market within a week? The EU Referendum took place in June, so surely post-Brexit conditions are not a surprise any longer (I say post-Brexit as this is the agents' definition; remember, we haven't even left the EU yet!). We employ the services of estate agents as they are supposed to be the experts on local market conditions, external factors that might affect those conditions, values based on precedent and demand. If they cannot be honest when it comes to those elements, why on earth do they exist?
Rant over; just find a tenant for our delightfully appointed home......please.
