HAPPY NEW YEAR!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Well, who would have thought this time last year that we, Andrew and I would now be ensconced in Spain as we cross over from 2016 into 2017.  Yes, it was our plan for the year, but so much could have gone wrong to upset that particular apple-cart.

As it happened, everything went extremely smoothly and here we are, planning the next year with ideas for work, more Spanish learning, more exploration of the country and many more visitors, we hope!

I think, generally, most people would agree that 2016 will not go down in the annals of ‘Glorious Years’.  Personally, we both had some very tough moments, but remembering the sad times is not for this moment in time.  Instead, we have been able to remember our friends and family in the most fitting ways…..Christmas Day picnics are a Watson family tradition, for instance, and the words ‘cow bell’ will resonate with some of you.  This year, our Christmas ‘celebrations’ will continue with the arrival of James, Lucie and Hannah, in the only way possible, accompanied by a fair quantity of alcohol.

So, we will see in the New Year at a local restaurant, El Puente in Dúrcal, beside an open fire, enjoying a delicious meal in a cosy environment.  We will undoubtedly try to scoff down 12 grapes each, one with every bong of the bell at midnight and then either go home to play games or venture to a neighbouring finca for post NYE festivities.  New Year’s Day, we plan to venture down to the coast, where daytime temperatures and clear blue skies are perfect for a long walk along the beaches.  On Monday, a more rigorous hike through a gorge in the Sierra Nevada may be in order.  Then, our new year begins!  And we can’t wait for the next instalments…..

We wish all our friends, family and, indeed, subscribers to our blog a Very Happy, Healthy and Successful New Year!
